Art, Place, and Identity: A View From the Desert

Panel discussion with Gerald Clarke, Carlos Ramirez and Kim Stringfellow, moderated by Steven Biller

Saturday, February 12
12 pm | Intersect Theatre, Palm Springs Convention Center

Over the past 25 years or so, artists have taken to mining the fraught and forgotten histories of the California desert and dreaming of creative ways to present their findings to different audiences. This panel, moderated by Steven Biller, features artists Gerald Clarke, Carlos Ramirez, and Kim Stringfellow in a discussion about the contemporary representations of the region’s past and present, from the land itself to its Indigenous and immigrant populations, and the importance of expressing place and identity in art.

The artists on this panel are included in the Zzyzx Redux exhibition, on view at the fair in Booth #211.

This event is open to all ticket holders.
